Born in 1965, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Rod is one of three children to Ukrainian parents. As a teenager he studied art with Robert Bateman and began creating wildlife art. After graduation in 1986, he moved to the U.S. and began focusing on landscape and architectural painting in a photo-realist technique.

Working from black-and-white photographs that he has taken, as well as comparing them with historical images that he found in local libraries, Chase would use the highlights of each photograph and incorporate them into one image. "One thing that sets me apart from other artists is that I will draw out my paintings first, then take it in 6-inch squares and work only on that section. It's almost like doing a mini-abstract." Each piece takes hundres of hours to create....
